Canadian Society for Disability and Oral Health

Over one in five Canadians aged 15 and older—about 8 million people—live with one or more disabilities, with this rising to 47% by age 75. For many, accessing high-quality oral health care with dignity and compassion remains a challenge. The Canadian Society for Disability and Oral Health (CSDH) was founded to address this gap, advocating for fair access to care. As a volunteer-led, non-profit organization, CSDH brings together dental professionals, researchers, educators, students, and disability advocates committed to advancing equitable oral health care.

The Wright Clinic

The Wright Clinic is London’s first and only not-for-profit, community-based dental clinic, providing comprehensive oral health services to low-income adults without private insurance. Managed by a board of directors, it is the only clinic of its kind in Canada. Clients receive care from a dedicated team, including dentists, hygienists, and assistants, trained in trauma-informed care. The clinic partners with the Glen Cairn Community Resource Centre and others to address oral and overall health needs. Volunteer specialists offer services like extractions, root canal therapy, and oral surgery. The clinic also collaborates with Fanshawe College and Schulich School of Medicine for student rotations. Since opening in 2021, it has served 1,022 clients and completed over 5,000 procedures worth more than $800,000 in 2023.
